Honda Civic & Accord LED Interior Lights — Bulb Sizes & Install Guide

Honda Civic & Accord LED Interior Lights — Bulb Sizes & Install Guide

The Civic and Accord are two of the most popular and most modified cars on the road, and both ship with the same dim yellow interior bulbs. Swapping to LED is a quick, cheap upgrade that makes the whole cabin feel ten years newer.

This guide covers the Civic (8th, 9th, 10th gen) and Accord (8th, 9th gen), with the exact bulb sizes and installation notes.

Honda Civic and Accord bulb sizes

Position Civic 8th/9th/10th gen Accord 8th/9th gen
Dome light 31mm festoon 42mm festoon
Map / reading lights T10 (W5W) T10 (W5W)
Trunk light T10 (W5W) T10 (W5W)
License plate lights T10 (W5W) T10 (W5W)
Footwell lights n/a (most trims) T10 (W5W)

The Civic dome light size catches people out. It uses a smaller 31mm festoon, not the 42mm most other cars use. Measure yours or buy a kit that specifically lists your Civic generation.

Will LEDs cause problems on a Honda?

Mostly no. Honda does not aggressively monitor interior bulb resistance on the Civic or Accord, so standard LED bulbs usually work without flicker or warnings.

If you add footwell or ambient lighting to a higher-spec Accord and get a flicker, error-free CANBUS bulbs solve it. For the standard interior swap, though, any correctly sized LED works fine.

Step-by-step install

  1. Pop the lens covers off with a plastic trim tool. Civic covers come off from the edge and need a steady hand.
  2. Pull the old halogens out. Rock side to side if they are stuck.
  3. Insert the LEDs. Plug and play.
  4. Test each light. If one doesn't light, flip it 180 degrees.
  5. Snap the covers back on.

The whole job takes about fifteen minutes on a Civic or Accord. The map and dome light covers are easy to access, and the trunk light is straightforward.

What color temperature suits a Honda?

6000K for the crisp modern white that matches the LED daytime running lights on newer Civics. If you want a softer factory look, 5000K is a solid middle ground.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to disconnect the battery? No. Interior bulb swaps are low voltage and safe with the lights off.

Why is one LED not working after install? Polarity. Pull it out, rotate it 180 degrees, and push it back in.

Can I install footwell lights if my Civic doesn't have them? Yes. Many owners add aftermarket T10 footwell lights to base trims. They tap into the dome light circuit or use a simple add-a-fuse.

The bottom line

The Civic and Accord are easy cars to upgrade to LED interior lighting. No serious CANBUS issues, simple access, and a cabin that looks completely different at night. Just make sure you get the right dome light size for your Civic.
