Chevrolet Silverado and Camaro interior LED lights: sizes and install

Chevy interiors are straightforward to work on. The bulbs are common types, the housings come apart without much drama, and the truck's electrical system is not the type to throw a fit over a bulb swap.

Silverado and Camaro take slightly different approaches. The truck has more positions and a few trim-specific lights. The Camaro is simpler but has a couple of spots people forget.

Silverado (2007-2013, 2014-2018, 2019+)

Position 2007-2013 2014-2018 2019+
Front dome / map T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168)
Rear dome (crew cab) 578 festoon 578 festoon T10 (194/168)
Footwell (front) T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168)
Vanity mirror 36mm festoon 36mm festoon 36mm festoon
Cargo / bed light T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168)
License plate T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168)

The 2019 refresh changed the rear dome from a festoon to a wedge. Ordering a kit for the older truck leaves you with the wrong bulb for the back seats, which you will only notice at night.

Crew cab versus double cab matters for quantity. The crew cab has a rear dome the double cab does not, and the kit lists should reflect that.

Camaro (5th and 6th gen)

Position 2010-2015 2016+
Front dome / map T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168)
Rear side lights T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168)
Footwell T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168)
Vanity mirror 36mm festoon 36mm festoon
Trunk T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168)
Glovebox T10 (194/168) T10 (194/168)

The 6th gen moved the trunk light and changed the housing. It is still a T10, but it is harder to reach on the 2016+ cars than it was on the 5th gen.

The rear side lights on both generations are the ones people miss. They sit behind the rear windows and you do not see them until you are in the back seat.

Does a Chevy care about LED load

Less than most. The Silverado in particular is forgiving, and most owners fit plain LEDs with no issues.

The exception is trucks with the higher trim instrument clusters, which watch a few circuits more closely. If you get a warning, put a CANBUS bulb in the dome position and it goes away.

Camaros are similar. The SS trims are slightly more sensitive than the V6 cars, but it is not a common complaint.

Fitting them

Silverado front dome: trim tool at the rear edge, firm pressure, it clips out. The housing is large enough to get your fingers in comfortably.

Rear dome on a crew cab: if it is a festoon, push towards one end to compress the spring and lift the other end out. If it is a wedge, it pulls straight out.

Camaro footwells are the easiest part of the job. Push-fit housings under the dash, reachable from the seat, no tools required.

The trunk light on a Camaro is in the side trim. It takes a bit of contortion but nothing worse than that.

Colour

Silverado owners overwhelmingly pick white. It is a work vehicle for a lot of people and white is the practical answer.

Camaro owners are more adventurous. Ice blue works well with the blue accent lighting on some trims. Purple is popular on the 6th gen, particularly on black cars where the contrast shows.

If you have the factory ambient lighting on a higher trim Camaro, match it with white or leave the footwells alone. Nothing looks worse than two shades of blue fighting each other.

Frequently asked questions

Will these fit a GMC Sierra? Yes. The Sierra shares the cabin with the Silverado, so the interior bulb types and positions match.

Does the Camaro kit include the trunk light? Most kits do. Check the listing description, because some entry-level kits only cover the cabin.

Can I put LEDs in the license plate lights? Yes, and on a dark truck it makes a visible difference.

My truck has the bed lighting package. Is that covered? The bed utility lights are separate from the interior kit on most listings. They are the same bulb type if you want to add them.
