Hyundai packs a lot of car into the price, and the interior lighting is one place where it shows. The factory bulbs are incandescent on most trims and they are dim enough that people notice within the first week of ownership.
Changing them is simple. Hyundai uses common bulb types and does not run aggressive bulb monitoring.
Elantra (MD/UD 2011-2015, AD 2016-2020, CN7 2021+)
| Position | 2011-2015 | 2016-2020 | 2021+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front dome / map | T10 (194/168) | T10 (194/168) | T10 (194/168) |
| Rear dome | 31mm festoon | 31mm festoon | 31mm festoon |

| Trunk | T10 (194/168) | T10 (194/168) | T10 (194/168) |
| Glovebox | T10 (194/168) | T10 (194/168) | 194 (some trims) |
The Elantra sedan does not have rear footwell lights. The bulb count is lower than people expect, usually six or seven positions for a full set.
The 2021+ CN7 moved the trunk light and changed the housing slightly, but the bulb stayed a T10.
Tucson (LM 2010-2015, TL 2016-2021, NX4 2022+)
| Position | 2010-2015 | 2016-2021 | 2022+ |

The Tucson has more positions than the Elantra because of the footwell and cargo lights. On a top trim with the panoramic roof, the rear dome is set further back in the headliner and takes a bit more reach.
Do Hyundais flag LED bulbs
Rarely. Hyundai does not monitor interior circuits the way European brands do, and a standard LED will not cause a warning on most models.
The exception is the 2022+ Tucson on some trims, which has a more sensitive body control module. If you get a bulb warning, a CANBUS bulb in the dome position fixes it.
Installation
Elantra front dome: the lens is held by clips at the front. A trim tool under the edge and it drops. There is a wiring connector on the housing, but you do not need to unplug it, just move the housing aside.
Rear dome on both: 31mm festoon in a spring clip. Push one end, lift the other.
Tucson footwell lights are under the dash and reachable from the seat. They are push-fit and come out with a firm pull.
Cargo light on the Tucson is a T10 in the side trim of the boot. It is the easiest one to do and the one you will use the most.
Colour
White is the default for both models and what most owners fit. Hyundai interiors are grey or black on most trims and white looks clean.
Warm white suits the beige interior option on the Tucson. If you have that trim, warm white blends better than white does.
Ice blue is popular in the Elantra, particularly on the N Line trims where the interior already has blue accents. It matches that styling rather than fighting it.
Frequently asked questions
Will these fit a Kia? No. Hyundai and Kia share platforms but the interior light housings differ. Use the Kia-specific listing.
How long does the job take? Around thirty minutes for a full set on either model. The Tucson takes slightly longer because of the cargo light.
Do LED bulbs get hot? Far less than incandescent. That is one of the practical benefits, especially in the vanity mirrors where the plastic gets warm with the factory bulbs.
Can I mix white and ice blue? You can, but pick one for the cabin. Mixing temperatures in the same space looks accidental.
