Renault Clio & Megane LED Interior Lights — Bulb Sizes & Install Guide

Renault Clio & Megane LED Interior Lights — Bulb Sizes & Install Guide

The Clio and Megane are two of the most common cars on European roads, and both leave the factory with the same dim, yellow interior bulbs. A full LED swap is one of the easiest and most visible upgrades you can make to a Renault interior.

This guide covers the Clio (MK3, MK4) and Megane (MK2, MK3), with the exact bulb sizes and installation notes.

Renault Clio and Megane bulb sizes

Position Clio MK3/MK4 Megane MK2/MK3
Dome light 42mm festoon 42mm festoon
Map / reading lights T10 (W5W) T10 (W5W)
Boot / trunk light Festoon Festoon
License plate lights T10 (W5W) T10 (W5W)
Footwell lights T10 (W5W) T10 (W5W)

Renault changed bulb types across model years. The boot light especially varies between a festoon and a T10 depending on the year. Pop the cover and check before you order.

Does the Clio or Megane throw error codes?

Mostly no. Renault does not aggressively monitor interior bulb resistance on the Clio or Megane, so standard LED bulbs usually work without flicker or warnings.

If you get a flicker on a higher-spec model, error-free CANBUS bulbs solve it. For the vast majority of owners, though, any correctly sized LED works fine.

Installation on the Clio and Megane

  1. Pop the lens covers off with a plastic trim tool. Renault covers are clip-based and come off from the edge.
  2. Remove the old bulbs. Pull straight out, rocking gently if stuck.
  3. Insert the new LEDs. Plug and play.
  4. Test before closing. If a bulb doesn't light, flip it 180 degrees.
  5. Snap the covers back on.

The Clio dome light is straightforward, taking less than a minute. The Megane boot light needs a bit more patience to access but is still easy.

What color temperature looks best on a Renault?

6000K for a crisp modern white that matches the LED running lights on newer Clios and Meganes. If you prefer a warmer factory look, 5000K is a solid choice.

Frequently asked questions

Are LED interior lights legal on a Clio? Yes. Interior lighting is not regulated like headlights or number plate lights.

Why does my new LED flicker? Usually a non-CANBUS bulb on a monitored circuit, or a loose connection. Error-free bulbs fix the first, reseating the bulb fixes the second.

Can I change the boot light without tools? Yes. The cover pops off with a plastic trim tool or a thin card on most models.

The bottom line

The Clio and Megane are easy cars to upgrade to LED interior lighting. No serious CANBUS headaches, simple access, and a cabin that looks completely different at night. Under half an hour for the full interior.
