Honda interiors are sensible. The bulbs are standard, the housings are not buried, and the electrical system does not throw warnings over a bulb change.
The CR-V and Pilot are both easy upgrades. The Pilot just takes longer because there is more of it.
CR-V (2012-2016, 2017-2022, 2023+)
| Position | 2012-2016 | 2017-2022 | 2023+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front dome / map | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) |
| Rear dome | 31mm festoon | 31mm festoon | 31mm festoon |
| Footwell (front) | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) |
| Vanity mirror | 31mm festoon | 31mm festoon | 31mm festoon |
| Cargo | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) |
| Glovebox | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) |
The rear dome uses a 31mm festoon, the short one. Same trap as the RAV4: people order 36mm bulbs and they do not fit.
The 2023 model moved the cargo light slightly but kept the bulb type. No change to ordering.
Pilot (2016-2022, 2023+)
| Position | 2016-2022 | 2023+ |
|---|---|---|
| Front dome / map | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) |
| Second row dome | 31mm festoon | 31mm festoon |
| Third row | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) |
| Footwell (front) | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) |
| Vanity mirror | 31mm festoon | 31mm festoon |
| Cargo | T10 (168/194) | T10 (168/194) |
The Pilot has a third row light that the CR-V does not. On an eight seat model you will want bulbs there, and it is one of the more useful lights in the vehicle if you regularly carry passengers.
The second row dome on the Pilot is a single unit in the middle of the headliner. Some trims have two. Have a look before ordering.
Warning lights on a Honda
Rare. Honda does not run the aggressive bulb checks that German manufacturers do, and a good quality LED will not trigger anything.
If you do see a warning on a Pilot with the higher trim cluster, it is almost always the dome circuit. Swap that position for a CANBUS bulb.
Doing the job
CR-V front dome: the lens has a clip at the front edge. Trim tool, gentle lift, it comes away with the bulb holder attached.
Rear dome on both: 31mm festoon in a spring holder. Compress one end, lift the other. Refitting is fiddly the first time and easy afterwards.
Footwell lights on the CR-V are under the dash and reachable without tools. The Pilot's front footwells are the same. The rear footwells on a Pilot are under the front seats and need a light to see what you are doing.
Cargo lights on both take seconds. On the Pilot there may be two, one each side on the higher trims.
Colour
White is what almost every CR-V owner fits. The interiors are grey or black and white looks factory.
Pilot owners lean slightly toward warm white, especially on the higher trims with beige leather. White makes beige look washed out, warm white keeps the cabin feeling warm.
Ice blue is a popular second choice on the CR-V. It looks modern without being loud, and it photographs well.
Frequently asked questions
Will these fit an HR-V or Passport? The HR-V uses smaller fittings in places and the Passport shares most of the Pilot's bulbs. Use the specific listing for each model to be safe.
Can I change the rear dome if I have a sunroof? Yes. The sunroof does not change the rear dome housing on either model.
Do I need to disconnect the battery? No, but turn the interior light switch to off so nothing is live while your fingers are in the housing.
How many bulbs does a Pilot need? A seven or eight seat model with all positions typically needs around fourteen. Count yours before ordering.
